CT BJJ: Consistancy is King
Last night at Crossroads Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu during our Team Training class we held a marathon training session completing over an hour of 10 minute rounds! As you progress in the Martial Art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu you will need to spend more time rolling in order to refine your techniques. At a certain point your Jiu-Jitsu benefits more from learning more about what you already know versus learning brand new techniques. Marathon training sessions, where you spend over an hour rolling force you to rely solely on technique verses shorter time limit training sessions which allow you to use more speed and strength to be successful.
The other benifit of rolling or sparring for such a long time is you are provided a long time to formulate strategies based on how your training partners are reacting. When your initial technique does not work you have the ability to trouble shoot to find out why. Understanding why is essential to excelling in brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, because bjj is the triumph of intellect over strength we must be able to think our way through problems rather than strength our way through them. Sparring for such long periods of time where if you use 100% of your strength you will completely fatigue and then lose forces you to use your brain.
