Today during Team Training we continued working the butterfly guard, working into a counter to our training partners using their leg to replace the arm when we have successfully controlled it from the bottom position. One of the most common counters to the butterfly guard in BJJ is to use your leg as a kickstand to prevent your shoulders from becoming tilted, by under hooking the leg we can use that control to roll to the top position. Understanding how we can use our training parters reactions to attack a different sweep or submission allows us to pick the most efficient move to attack with so that we are always using intelligence over speed and strength. Make sure you are in class as we continue to cover the butterfly guard. Don’t get left behind!
