Sunday Morning Jiu-Jitsu started by going over the Gift-wrap position. Coach Denis started by going over how to get into the Gift-Wrap Position and then went into a number of BJJ submissions you can achieve from there. The two submissions taught this past Sunday were the Arm bar and the Reverse Triangle, two of the most powerful submissions in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Knowing Multiple submissions from one position allows you to use your training partners reactions and use strategy to win the match by using intelligence and a higher understanding of Jiu-jitsu rather than using size and strength.
Denis then answered questions on how to put people in a position called “The Straight Jacket” from side control. The straight jacket is an amazingly powerful control position that allows you to prevent your training partner from using their arms to defend themselves. By being able to neutralize your training partners arms you are completely safe from danger and can take as much time as you need to work towards a submission. This idea of keeping yourself out of harm while neutralizing somebodies ability to hurt you is the main strategy behind BJJ.
The Sunday Class ended with a great workout, everybody partnered up and did several rounds of grappling. There is no workout like a jiu-jitsu workout. Jiu-jitsu is both an aerobic and anaerobic workout, so your not only getting a great cardio workout but your also working out your muscles at the same time!
