Today during Team Training We continued working the butterfly guard sweep! This time using an undertook to control our opponents basing hand, and adding a grip readjustment to deal with the situation where our opponent is still able to get a hand on the mat in an attempt to base. Paying special attention to which way the shoulders are tilting during the sweep, is extremely important so you don’t end up fighting a losing battle. Once everybody worked through the undertook we discussed and drilled what movements are necessary to prevent your opponent from passing to your weak side and a transition to move to your opponents back when they attempt to pass from the strong side. We will continue to work the butterfly guard sweep for the next two weeks making sure everybody feels comfortable in the position before we move on to the next topic, so if you missed tonight make sure you show up on Wednesday to put in some work!
