The UFC is huge these days. Barely a month goes by where there isn’t a UFC pay per view event on tv. This is where my interest in jiu jitsu began. As most fans know, to be a well rounded fighter in any combat sport like the UFC, you need a good ground game. Jiu jitsu is where ground fighting begins and ends.
I was at a crossroads in my life. I was in my 40’s with a new challenging career in law enforcement and bored with my workout routine. Lifting weights, although effective, to me became boring and stale over time. I didn’t like running so I wanted something new to keep fit. I had done some judo a few years back and with an interest in the UFC I thought “what about jiu jitsu?”
So I’m in my 40’s about to seriously look into a combat sport. Was I out of my mind? Maybe a little, but what the heck. So the search began. A simple Google search gave me Crossroads Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in near by Waterford. Oh and what was this? A free trial to boot! I can’t lose. Try it out free and if I don’t like it I’m out. No brainer. I contacted Dustin and he invited me to experience Crossroads for myself. Well two weeks turned into two years.
I have never looked back and have no regrets, other than not starting this years….no decades earlier!
Every day is a challenge. Dustin provides a great learning environment along with tremendous knowledge and passion. That passion translates to his students. Everyone is willing to help you train and learn, adding to your experience. I’m not going to lie, training and rolling weekly in your 40’s you will get sore. Has my experience been positive and worth my time and effort? Absolutely.
Dustin keeps you engaged an improving every day! If you are in your 40’s, 50’s, or any age, and are thinking of learning jiu jitsu or martial arts, I can highly recommend Crossroads BJJ. Contact Dustin for a free trial, come in and you will be hooked. I love it. Crossroads keeps me in great shape and I have made great friends as well. If you are a bit older and considering a change in your exercise regimen, give Crossroads BJJ a try. I promise you won’t regret it!
