Today during Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Team Training we worked some very high level back back takes from the De La Riva Guard. The De La Riva guard is one of the most popular guards today in sport BJJ and can be seen in every International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation tournament you attend. So even if you don’t plan on ever competing understand this guard is essential because as you train with higher level training partners they will try to implement these positions on you. As always during the Team Training class everybody was given lots of time to drill the new position in-order to add all of the details and to make sure sure the technique was put into Muscle Memory. Having a BJJ Technique in your muscle memory means that you don’t have to think about it when its time to use it, you just do it! Once we moved to the back mount we finished with the class by drilling a simple Gi choke. After the Technical portion of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Team training we had a marathon session of 5 minute rounds, helping to push the advanced students and those looking to get into great shape!
