Had a great time with the folks at crossroads BJJ gym. I'm a visitor from out of town and the welcomed me in. No attitudes nothing but friendly folks! Their professor Dustin Rhodes is very knowledgeable and inviting. I got a chance to roll with him and even though he could shut me down with every move you was light and respectful of my abilities. This is reflected in his students. Not one meathead in the bunch . Any way, top notch. Thanks for letting me train with you all!

Cool men and women that enjoy learning and helping one another get better. Quality of instruction is very good, and it’s obvious that a lot of care is put into the development of the trainees. Nothing is free so you’ll have to put in the time on the mats to progress. Be prepared to discover the many stages of white belt. Great exercise and a lot of fun learning a useable skill that not many people out there know.

BJJ Crossroads CT Team Training

July 19 2017

Tonight during our Team Training class at Crossroads BJJ in New London, CT we continued to refine our Jiu-Jitsu techniques from the knee shield position. Our focus was moving under our training partner so we could create the leverage and momentum required to successfully and efficiently transition to the an improved position.

During BJJ class we drilled 5 techniques that allowed us to either sweep our training partner and move from being under our training partner to being on top of them or moving behind them. In both situations we are always looking to move to a better position, which is something that is always true in Jiu-Jitsu or BJJ.

In addition to learning several ways to improve our position we were also focused on moving to one position that gave up several options to attack. In this particular Jiu-Jitsu position by moving under our opponent we provide ourselves 4 options of attack depending on how the top player attempts to maintain the top position. Because there are a set number of ways for the person in top position to maintain their position we can begin to anticipate their reactionsand switch the BJJ technique we are attempting to the one that takes advantage of the way they are attempting to hold us down. Grappling with this philosophy allows you to force your training partner to react to you and if they are reacting to you, you will always come out on top.
