In Lesson 13 of the Crossroads Martial Arts Curriculium we cover bjj techniques from the guard! The guard position is what has made Jiu-jitsu famous and changed how we view a fight. In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu the guard gives you the ability to defend yourself on your back, so just because somebody is on top of you it doesn’t mean you have lost! You have the ability to choke, sweep or apply a number of arm and shoulder locks from the guard position. It is this reason that you must learn to pass the guard!
Lesson 13 of the Crossroads Martial Arts Curriculium teaches you how to pass the guard from the standing position. To do this we must have proper footwork and we must keep our posture. If we don’t keep good posture or have our feet in the correct position we can easily be swept and lose the more dominant position in a self defense situation. In this bjj class once you know how to stand up properly we cover what can happen when you don’t.
When somebody is attempting to stand up in the guard there are a number of mistakes that can be taken advantage of and in Lesson 13 of the Crossroads Martial Arts Curriculium we cover two sweeps that take advantage of poor foot placement by the person who is attempting to stand. Sweeps are an amazing tool to turn the tide of a self defense situation or a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu tournament because while bjj gives us the ability to defend ourselves off our back, it is always best to be in the top position where you can apply pressure and more effectively control the fight.
