Last night during our Team Training program at Crosseoads BJJ we took some time to further our understanding of the armbar. One of the many open Guard concepts taught at Crossroads BJJ is the use of tension, the ability to stretch your opponent out. By creating tension in your training partners body you create situations that force them to react to you, and if they do not they will be submitted.
In this class we created tension by getting a 2 on 1 on the arm and applying pressure with the feet on our training partners hips. This causes the top players arm to lengthen which in bjj or Jiu-Jitsu is something you do not want. From this point we went on to practice a number of different armbar variations based on how the top player reacted to their arm being out of position.
