Last night during the Team Training class at Crossroads BJJ we covered two possible submissions from the guard off of one movement. What separates BJJ from other Martial Arts is the philosophy that you never know what is going to happen in a fight, there are any number of potential reasons to why you could find yourself in a bad spot and you need to know how to react in order to protect yourself. BJJ gives us the ability to fight of our back in a position we call the guard. In this class we covered 2 submissions off of one set up, the arm bar and the Kimora or shoulder lock.
In the past 2 weeks we have covered how the top Jiu-Jitsu player should be positioning his body to defend submissions and work to pass the guard. In this class we use the knowledge of what the top player needs to deconstruct thier position and then attack. The benifit of having two attacks that use the same initial movement is that it can create confusion for the Jiu-Jitsu player on top which creates a delay in thier reaction time and thus makes it harder for them to defend your attack.
In BJJ we want to use intelligence instead of brute strength, this is why Jiu-Jitsu works for everybody, not just the big, fast and strong, and that it why it is one of the most effective martial arts on the planet. If you live in the southern CT area and are interested in trying out a class stop in and experience all the positive benefits of bjj for yourself.
