Last night during our Fundamentals of BJJ class at Crossroads BJJ in New London County CT we drilled a chain or sequence of techniques starting with a passing the guard and ending in the mount position. During that sequence we covered a number of senerios that can take place if you are not paying attention to key details during each position.
In BJJ ( Jiu-Jitsu ) you must pay attention to details, each technique has several ways it can be stopped or worse ways you can leave yourself open to getting submitted, making sure you are paying attention to each detail in a technique prevents bad situations before they happen. In this particular class we started with a stack pass from the standing position to secure side control. If you are not in the right position during this pass it is easy to get triangled or arm-barred. The next technique we covered was moving from side control to the mount while paying close attention to moving the bottom players elbow out of position. If we forget the detail moving the elbow it is easy for the bottom player to elbow escape and either take your back or put you back in the guard.
The class ended with a discussion on the most efficient ways to improve your Jiu-Jitsu, and how you can make the most efficient use of your time on the mat. If your interested in seeing how Martial Arts and brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can help you live a happier, healthier life, come down and watch or try a class! The hardest part is walking through the door.
