Last night during the Crossroads Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Team Training class we worked on using our legs to great a heavy guard. Typically when you think of being heavy in BJJ you think of the person on top, however the bottom player can also be heavy by using their arms and legs to hang their weight off of the top player who is attempting to pass. By hanging your weight off of the top bjj player you force them to carry your weight during their attempts to pass which fatigues them and over time makes performing your own techniques much easier.
In last nights BJJ class we studied how to use the weight of our legs paired with hip movement to prevent the stack pass. Once we were able to defend the pass attempt we went on to cover to ways to take advantage of the top player being out of position. Depending on if the person was high or low we worked an arm drag or a sweep based on which ever move was easier to get. In Jiu-Jitsu we are always looking for the easiest answer which requires the least amount of strength to achieve.
