Had a great time with the folks at crossroads BJJ gym. I'm a visitor from out of town and the welcomed me in. No attitudes nothing but friendly folks! Their professor Dustin Rhodes is very knowledgeable and inviting. I got a chance to roll with him and even though he could shut me down with every move you was light and respectful of my abilities. This is reflected in his students. Not one meathead in the bunch . Any way, top notch. Thanks for letting me train with you all!

Cool men and women that enjoy learning and helping one another get better. Quality of instruction is very good, and it’s obvious that a lot of care is put into the development of the trainees. Nothing is free so you’ll have to put in the time on the mats to progress. Be prepared to discover the many stages of white belt. Great exercise and a lot of fun learning a useable skill that not many people out there know.

Kimora’s : Beating the Grip

Last night at Crossroads BJJ in New London County Connecticut we continued developing our Kimora from the Guard series. While during Monday’s bjj class we used our knee to break the top Jiu-Jitsu players posture to attack the submission, in last nights bjj class we started with the more traditional variation of the Kimora and sat up to achieve the proper grip. From this position we reviewed how to properly apply the submission making sure we were using proper mechanics to use our entire body to attack the shoulder not just our arms.

The next portion of class was used to counter a number of ways people will use to defend or stale the position. The two ways we drilled in this bjj class in ct was the top Jiu-Jitsu player either gripping the inside of their leg, or gripping their hands together. The bottom Jiu-Jitsu player must move to apply force at the correct angles to target where the top Jiu-Jitsu player is gripping. However in both cases we are trying to stretch our opponents grip, in a way similar to how we open the closed Guard from the top position. In the final technique of the class we began to see how the top Jiu-Jitsu players defenses begin to open up the possibility of alternative submissions like the triangle and Armbar.

At the end of last nights class several Crossroads BJJ white belts earned some stripes on their white belts moving that much closer to earning their blue belts. Congratulations to Sam, Vic and Shawn on their achievement, hard work pays off!
