Had a great time with the folks at crossroads BJJ gym. I'm a visitor from out of town and the welcomed me in. No attitudes nothing but friendly folks! Their professor Dustin Rhodes is very knowledgeable and inviting. I got a chance to roll with him and even though he could shut me down with every move you was light and respectful of my abilities. This is reflected in his students. Not one meathead in the bunch . Any way, top notch. Thanks for letting me train with you all!

Cool men and women that enjoy learning and helping one another get better. Quality of instruction is very good, and it’s obvious that a lot of care is put into the development of the trainees. Nothing is free so you’ll have to put in the time on the mats to progress. Be prepared to discover the many stages of white belt. Great exercise and a lot of fun learning a useable skill that not many people out there know.

BJJ CT: Position before Submission

This mornings 6am Jiu-Jitsu class focused on the side control position covering how we use our arms, legs and most importantly our torso to control the Jiu-Jitsu player in the bottom position. In lesson 1 of the Crossroads BJJ Curriculium we discussed how to move your body to escape side control and move to the guard, in class 2 we use the knowledge of how the bottom bjj player is going to move to understand where we need to position ourselves to prevent the escape.

Only after we establish control of the position does it make sense to look for a submission, if we attack a submission before we have control the bottom Jiu-Jitsu player can easily escape and begin to start working their own techniques rather than reacting to ours. In this class we begin looking for the Americana (shoulder lock) by first seperating the bottom Jiu-Jitsu players bicep away from their ribs. Whenever you attack the arms you will always start by attempting to isolate the arm, then depending on if the arm is bent or strain you will attack either the shoulder or the elbow. In this Jiu-jitsu class we discussed how to adjust your grip to prevent the bottom player from straightening their arm making it much easier to secure the submission.
