Another Great Kid-Jitsu Martial arts class in the books. The kid-Jitsu program at Crossroads Brazilian Jiu-jitsu focuses on teaching children the basic self defense skills in a way that every student will feel confident in their abilities on and off the mat. With two new students in the class we took the self defense portion of class to teach what do when somebody grabs your wrist and tries to pull you. This ties in with one of the main attributes we try to develop in all of our Martial Arts students at Crossroads BJJ, BALANCE. Balance comes from understanding how your body works and moves, and when you know how your body moves and works you feel confident in yourself.
The Goal of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is to get a larger, stronger opponent to the ground where the smaller person can use technique to control the larger person. This is what makes Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu the perfect martial art for Children. Kids who are bullied are usually smaller kids in school so understanding how to control a larger person is an essential skill to pocess if you are going to ever be confident that you can truly defend yourself against a bully who is most likely bigger than you .In the Kid-Jitsu program we focus on simple and effective takedowns or throws that will work. In last Tuesdays class we worked on a simple trip.
Once we got to the ground we focused on how to move in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu in way that pins the person on the bottom, because once you get somebody on the ground, you don’t want them just to be able to get up again. While Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a martial art that is more commonly known for its submissions in the UFC the martial art primary focus on how to control a person because it order to get a submission, first you need to be able to understand how to hold them without them being able to hurt you. This idea of using angles and positions to neutralize somebodies ability to harm you represents the main idea of Jiu-Jitsu. The idea is not to hurt somebody, but to prevent them from hurting you and in the martial art of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu this is done by pinning them to the ground in a number of different positions.
