We packed the house last night during our No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class working both stand up wrestling techniques and then transitioning into some advanced guard work, including transitions between x-guard and single leg X. With the goal of the No-GI BJJ class to give students confidence starting on the feet and transitioning to ground work Coach James set up a series of drills that did just that, working stand up clinching or gripping drills and then working into a series of drills starting on the feet that continue on the ground.
During the Ground work portion of class we studied transitioning from single leg X guard to a traditional X-guard and a sweep from each position. going over how to perform each sweep and what the top Jiu-Jitsu player can do to shut down your sweep attempt facilitating you to switch positions. Transitioning smoothly between techniques requires drilling and performing a number of repetitions to make sure that each part of our body is in the right position and doing the right things. The secret to getting good at Jiu-Jitsu is performing a reps, the more reps you do the quicker you will be able to react under pressure.
