Last night Coach Cooke taught another amazing No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu class focusing on take downs and then transitioning into attacking the legs. The nogi bjj class at Crossroads Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu focuses on giving our students a well rounded game and preparing them to compete.
The class started off on the feet focusing on defensive wrestling skills mainly defending the single leg. Just like in our self defense classes during the competition classes at Crossroads BJJ we always want to bring the match to the ground on our terms, so when somebody picks up your leg you need to know how to get it back to the ground.
On the ground we worked transitioning from single-x to x-guard and setting up the leg lock from the position. The main focus during this portion of the Jiu-Jitsu class was understanding how to manipulate the legs in order force the bjj player on top to fall and or create off balance. This off balance creates the oppertunity to either sweep or submit with a leg lock.
