Last night at Crossroads Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and martial arts we had a great class that was focused around one thing, getting the kids of our martial arts class excited about Jiu-Jitsu. As parents we know that the martial arts can provide our children with powerful tools to protect them both mentally and physically against bullies, and deal with all of life’s challenges. As parents we also know that keeping our kids focused on an activity long enough for them to experience the benifits can be a challange, and for this reason the kid-Jitsu class at Crossroads BJJ and Mrtial Arts focuses on making learning new skills through games!
In Jiu-Jitsu you must pay attention and focus on a number of what we refer to as “details”, little components of each technique that if ignored will create situations where the technique doesn’t work. From watching one of our instructors demonstrate to going back and working with there partner we help each student remember each detail and then practice it. Eventually we turn those techniques into games where everbody can’t wait to practice what they have learned.
Learning a new skill and then making it work is amazingly rewarding and our goal as coaches at Crossroads Jiu-Jitsu is to help our students experience the rewards of paying attention and see that focusing on the task at hand is important and doing that in a way that is fun. It is our hope as coaches that by giving our students the ability to focus and learn new skills on the Mat that they can then take those skills and apply them to all of the areas of thief life.
