With such nice weather it’s the perfect day to train! In today’s afternoon Jiu-Jitsu class we covered takedowns and and pressure passing! On the feet we borrowed a few techniques from the martial art Judo working the timing for an outside foot sweep. To incorporate movement into our stand up game we drilled attempting the foot sweep while our Jiu-Jitsu training partner had the ability to move away and defend. This helps us learn to stay relaxed on the feet, improve our balance and learn how to time our Jiu-Jitsu and judo techniques.
On the ground we worked an over under pass from the closed guard. Today we focused on breaking the closed guard from standing before coming back to the knees to force half guard. In Jiu-Jitsu we want to be able to control our training partners movement, by doing this we can make defending the pass very difficult. This pass is all about pressure, staying tight and slowly improving our position inch by inch. This is why Jiu-Jitsu does not require you to be in amazing shape to make it work. By learning what to do and when to do it you don’t need to be fast or strong, you simply let the laws of physics work in your favor.
