Everything starts on the feet, whether it be a bjj competition or an attack on the street where you are forced to defend yourself. So in order to feel confident in your ability to defend yourself you must know how to grapple in the standing position, which means knowing where to keep your balance as somebody is trying to move you, knowing where your arms, legs and head need to be to protect yourself. Learning this skills takes time and repetition the same as the techniques we use on the ground.
At Crossroads Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in both our fundamentals class and our competition class we cover stand up techniques with and without the gi. But more importantly we cover the techniques and mindset you need to have in three selerate situations you may encounter, a Jiu-Jitsu competition, a fight where you know your in a fight before you get attacked, and a fight where you are caught by surprise. Using simple and effective techniques that work regardless of strength or flexibility you will be able to keep yourself safe.
