Today during BJJ Team Training we worked take downs. Every self defense situation and every competition starts standing up. At Crossroads Brazilian Jiu-jitsu we work our Judo and Wrestling style takedowns several times a week to ensure our stand up skills are always improving. When the match or fight goes to the ground the person who gets the takedown will most likely land i the dominant and more advantageous position. Spending the Class drilling Judo sweeps allowed us to practice landing in dominant position on the ground. We were also able to practice working from throws directly to submissions. Ending the fight as soon as possible is never a bad thing!
