Today during Team Training we continued our study of the Butterfly guard Hook Sweep introducing the pant grip to slow down your opponents ability to circle pass to your weak side. We then strengthened that concept by adding a push pull to increase the amount of total force. At this point in the class once everybody understood how to use these details, we went into giving more resistance in our efforts to pass butterfly guard. For most of the students in order to pass the butterfly guard we had to pass standing. Dealing with a passer who can pass both high and low can be very challenging. in order to shut down the standing pass we worked two potential solutions, a sweep where you can use the hook and a belt grip to roll to side control as your training parter stands and a transition into X-Guard. Class ended with some great partner sparring drills starting from the butterfly guard!
