Last night at Crossroads BJJ during our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Team Training class we continued developing attacks and transitions from the Kimora grip. Over the past few weeks we have gone over a number of transitions that provide us with a plan of attack for when our Jiu-Jitsu sparring partner turns into us in an attempt to escape our initial Kimora attack. From our training partner turning into us we developed and refined a number of techniques that funneled the top bjj player into either a kimora, armbar or triangle submission. However in order to develop a game or system you need to have a plan of attack for each way your bjj training partner will attempt to escape, so after covering the top bjj player turning into us, it is only natural that we should also have a plan for when he or she turns away from us.
From the Kimora grip when our partner turns away from us we looked to follow them up and secure the top position, eventually moving to a position in Jiu-Jitsu we call triple attack, which as it’s name suggests gives us 3 different options to either submit the bottom bjj player or secure an even more dominant position. In this BJJ class we covered how to move to back control while securing the body triangle, how to roll to a triangle as well as how to finish with an armbar. Each attack had a different que letting us know which technique would be the most efficient and the most effective. Then in order to learn how to apply the techniques under pressure we did some drilling. These drills allowed Crossroads BJJ students to refine these techniques further by understanding when to go for each technique, how to make the submissions tighter and how our training are going to attempt escape the Kimora grip from a different position. These drills are a key component to making our students Jiu-Jitsu practical as opposed to being simply theoretical. And practical knowledge is what you need to be effective in s self defense situation.
