There’s no better way to start the day then getting a great work out and learning some Jiu-Jitsu. Our Fundamentals of bjj class started bright and early at 6am so all of the Jiu-Jitsu practitioners at Crossroads BJJ who have responsibilities at night can get a solid hour and fifteen minutes of training in before they start the rest of the day.
Our fundamentals of bjj class started off with some movement drills designed to drill some of the essential skills of Jiu-Jitsu into our muscle memory. Training techniques into your muscle memory is a common theme in because in the stressful situation of a tournament or a street fight you do not have time to think about how to perform each individual Jiu-Jitsu technique, you must simply react.
During the Jiu-Jitsu technique portion of class we drilled moving from a standard mounted position to an S-Mount. The S-mount allows us to attack both the near and far armbars as well as a caratied restraint. In martial arts if you can confuse your opponent it will be harder for them to defend themselves. So my moving to S-mount we give ourselves an even greater advantage over our Jiu-Jitsu training partner than we had in the standard mount position.
